Really exciting stuff happens here at work

Yesterday someone was firing a cannon every hour on the lawn in front of the capitol building. No one here seems to know why and I couldn't find anything about it online. It happened last year too, so it's got to be to commemorate something. (I'm assuming they don't just let you set off cannons in front of highly visible government buildings on a whim.)
